人間は古くから様々な手法を駆使して服を再利用してきました。しかし、ファストファッションが台頭する現代では、修繕するより買い直すほうが安くあがり、当然のように捨て去られるものになりつつあります。このような現状に馴染んでしまった我々は衣服に対するありがたみや愛情を失ってしまってはいないでしょうか。 この作品は傷ついた衣服を癒す「絆創膏」です。今まで穴が開いたり汚れがついてしまった衣服などは、専門店に預けたり、時間をかけて修繕しなければなりませんでした。しかし、この絆創膏をあてがうことで、衣服を着用しながら局所的に修繕を行うことができます。この絆創膏はニードルフェルティングに用いられる返し付きの針を用いて、細かくちぎられた羊毛を汚れ傷ついた部分に植え込むことで布帛に固定し、服を再生・更新します。この絆創膏の考え方には2つのタイプがあります。ひとつは、傷ついた服を治癒し元どおりに「再生する」絆創膏。もうひとつは、新たなデザインを獲得し、服の価値を「更新させる」絆創膏。この絆創膏によって、治癒力を身につけた服は、まさに人間・動物が持ちうる「代謝機能」を獲得したように見えるのではないでしょうか。

Human beings have repaired and reused clothes using various techniques through ages. In these days that fast-fashion becoming popular, reusing clothes costs more than buying new one, so throwing away old clothes is being taken for granted. Aren’t you losing appreciation and affection to your clothes owing to getting used to this situation? This work is “band-aid” for damaged clothes. So far, we have had speciality shops repair or clean our damaged or stained clothes. This band-aid enables us to repair and clean locally while wearing the clothes. We created two types of band-aid as follows: one that cures and recovers damaged clothes, and one that gives a new design and updates the value of clothes. This work raises our awareness of appreciation and aids fabrication of clothes.
